HAYWARD, Calif. – Following two impressive wins over the weekend, the Pioneer women's basketball team will have a quick turnaround with a game at Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday, February 5. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The Pioneers lost to the Otters 51-38 on December 8.
“Playing our travel partner game on a Tuesday this late in the year is not an ideal situation,” Pioneer Head Coach
Suzy Barcomb said. “But it is what it is and we will prepare for the game like we have all season, just in a shorter span of time.”
The Pioneers are 6-7 in CCAA play, good for sixth place. East Bay is 8-9 overall. The Pioneers have won four of their last six games. East Bay defeated Sonoma State 57-44 and San Francisco State 59-44 over the weekend. The Pioneers lead the CCAA in scoring defense (50.9ppg) and rank second in field goal percentage (34.4%) and blocked shots (2.8). East Bay continues to rank nationally in three defensive categories in Division II. The Pioneers rank sixth in field goal percentage. Opponents are shooting 32.9 percent from the field. The Pioneers are seventh in scoring defense, holding their opponents to 52 points a game. East Bay ranks 62nd in 3-point field goal defense (32.9%).
Marlene MacMillan leads the Pioneers in scoring (8.4ppg) and rebounds (7.5rpg) for the season. MacMillan, who has posted three double-doubles this season, is the seventh leading rebounder in the CCAA (7.5rpg).
Tori Breshers, is second in scoring with an 8.1 point per game average. Breshers has a team-best 23 blocked shots and is second on the Pioneers in rebounds (4.9rpg). In 17 games, Breshers also has a team-best 23 steals.
Micah Walker, is tied with Breshers in scoring with an 8.1 point per game average. Walker, who has a season-high 16 points against Cal State Dominguez Hills, tops the Pioneers in free throw percentage (77.9%).
Brianna Terrance, is averaging 7.5 points a game.
Lauren Lucchesi is averaging 7.3 points per game in 14 appearances .
Sarah Finlay, coming off two solid games against Sonoma State and San Francisco State, is netting 6.3 points for the season.

Cal State Monterey Bay is third in the CCAA with a 10-3 record. The Otters, who have won seven straight games, are 13-3 for the season. Cal State Monterey Bay leads Division II in 3-point field goal percentage (22.1%) and ranks fifth in scoring defense (51.6). Brittani Jefferson, averaging 9.6 points per game, is the Otters leading scorer. Jefferson is averaging a team-best 6.6 rebounds a game. Gabby Munsch follows Jefferson in scoring with an 8.3 point per game average.
“Monterey Bay is on a hot winning streak and are playing at a very high level,” Barcomb said. “Their gym will be packed, fans excited, and it will be a very intense environment.”
The Pioneers will return home to host Cal State Dominguez Hills on February 8 and Cal State L.A. on February 9 during Cal State East Bay's Homecoming Week celebrations.
