Pioneers Head South to Battle #17 Golden Eagles, Toros

HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay is currently tied for fourth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) North Division standings. The Pioneers are only three points out of the second spot and will make a push to claim that position on the road this weekend against Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Cal State East Bay-Cal State L.A. Match Preview
The Pioneers will face their second straight nationally ranked opponent and fourth of the season on Friday, Oct. 11, to begin their trip in Southern California. The Golden Eagles are currently ranked No. 17 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll.

East Bay (2-7-1, 2-5-1 CCAA) had its unbeaten streak of three matches snapped on Sunday falling 2-0 to now No. 6 ranked UC San Diego. Los Angeles (7-1-2, 5-1-2 CCAA) rides an unbeaten stretch of five contests into the weekend following a 3-2 overtime win over Humboldt State on Sunday.

Halil Tozar scored his team leading fourth goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles the victory over the Jacks. He ranks third in the CCAA having taken 28 shots this season, and leads a cast of 11 different players to contribute to the CSULA scoring column.

CSULA Mike Beigarten has started the last eight games in goal and had not allowed more than one goal in a game prior to Sunday's 3-2 win over HSU. He enters the weekend ranked second in the CCAA in save percentage (.833) and goals against average (0.59).

The Golden Eagles have dominated the all-time series between the two squads having won all eight matches and outscored the Pioneers 25-1 in the process. In the most previous meeting Cal State L.A. earned a 2-0 result at Jesse Owens Track on Sept. 21, 2012.

Cal State East Bay-Cal State Dominguez Hills Match Preview
Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-2-2, 4-2-2 CCAA) will be playing the Pioneers following a matchup against Cal State Stanislaus two days earlier at the StubHub! Center's Main Stadium. CSUDH started league play 3-0-2 before suffering back-to-back losses. The Toros are most recently coming off a 5-0 victory over Sonoma State this past Sunday.

Aaron Salazar leads the CCAA with eight assists and scored a team leading five goals thus far in 2013. He leads the league's top offense which has scored 17 goals in conference play and 22 overall.

In CCAA play the Toros rank second in shots taken (125), shot percentage (.136), shots on goal (58), and assists (12). Eleven different players have scored a goal for the Toros including four from Heriberto Ponce, and three apiece by Alejandro Covarrubias and Miguel Vazquez.

Trey Mitchell has started the most games in goal for CSUDH at six, including four of his team's last five overall. He has allowed just five goals in 560 minutes and posted three solo shutouts this season. Mitchell holds top-5 league marks with his 0.80 goals against average and .808 save percentage.

Cal State East Bay will look to snap a six-match losing streak to Cal State Dominguez Hills since the series restarted back in 2009. The Toros have scored three or more goals in all six of those matchups.
