TURLOCK, Calif.
--- Alexa Torres turned in an 11th-place finish, leading the Pioneer women's cross country team to a third-place effort at the Stanislaus Invitational on Saturday. Cal State East Bay finished ahead of Academy of Art and UC Merced, while the host Warriors captured the team crown.

Competing in her second meet of the season, Torres recorded time of 10:49 in the 3K. The junior bested 30 runners. "Alexa did what we wanted her to do," Pioneer head coach Ralph Jones said. "She went out and did a good job. I was pleased with her performance."

Julie Scully clocked in at 11:07.40 to finish in 17th place. "I felt Julie ran one of her better races so far," Jones said. "She had a good effort and was able to run down a number of competitors."

Angie Gonzales right on her heels in 18th place with a time of 11:14.80. "Angie has come a long way," Jones said. "She's running a lot better and recorded a personal best in today's race."

Iris Martinez and Imani Heath crossed the finish line at the exact same time in 12:11.10. The pair claimed 25th and 26th place, respectively.

"We did a good job staying close to a strong Stanislaus team," Jones said. "The hard workouts resulted in a good effort today. I'm extremely proud of our women."

The Pioneers will next compete in the San Francisco State Invitational on October 11.
