SANTA ROSA, Calif. --- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team took seventh place at the 2013 Sonoma State Invitational after posting a team score of 305 (+17) in Tuesday's third round. The Pioneers finished with an overall total of 908 (+44), putting them 42 strokes behind the team champions, Sonoma State. CCAA rivals Cal State Monterey Bay and UC San Diego placed second and third, respectively. Northwest Nazarene's Nick Hardy carded a 68 (-4) in the final round and was five-under for the tournament to claim the individual crown at the par-72 Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club.
Elliot Busichio was the Pioneers' best golfer this week, finishing up at 224 (+8) after shooting a 76 (+4) on Tuesday thanks in part to an eagle. Busichio placed 16th among the overall field of 74.Â
Zain Pervez also carded a final-round 76 (+4) to close out the week at 228 (+12), second-best on the team and 33rd-best in the tournament.
A.J. Hebert was just a stroke behind him, finishing at 229 (+13) in a tie for 34th after shooting 77 (+5) on Tuesday.
Adam Stone stumbled to an 84 (+12) in the third round, but still posted the fourth team score for the Pioneers with an overall total of 235 (+19), good for 53rd place.
Joel Keylor fired his best round of the tournament with a 76 (+4), putting him right on Stone's heels at 237 (+21) in a tie for 59th.
Joe Furtado-Foster, competing unattached, shot the low round for East Bay on Tuesday. He followed up an 80 and a 76 yesterday with a 74 (+2) on Tuesday to finish at 230 (+14), tied for 38th place.
The Pioneers will take on another tough field next week at the Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif.Â
