The Cal State East Bay men's golf team will enter the final round of the 2012 NCAA Division II Central/West Regional in 11th place following Tuesday's second round at the Wigwam Resort. The Pioneers added 10 strokes to their opening round total, carding an 18-over 306 in the second round on Tuesday, dropping eight spots on the team leaderboard with 18 holes left to play. 

Jeff Cornez led the Pioneers in the second round, taking three strokes off his opening round score with a 74 (+2). Cornez' two-day total is now 151 (+7), putting him in a tie for 50th to improve his standing by 16 spots. Cornez turned in three birdies and 10 pars on the day.

A.J. Warren and A.J. Maxedon each turned in a 77 (+5) in the second round. Maxedon took three strokes off his first round score and posted three birdies to move up six spots on the leaderboard. Meanwhile, Chris Herzog carded a 78 (+6) to move into a tie for 66th with Warren and two other individuals.

Blake Ahlin also posted a six-over 78 on the second day, bringing his two-round total to 146 (+2) to put him in a tie for 18th with nine other individuals in the 110-player field.

The Pioneers now sit just 10 strokes back of seventh place and 23 strokes back of the top five. Chico State continues to lead the team competition with a nine-under 567. The Wildcats hold a four-stroke lead on Colorado School of Mines, who turned in an even 288 in round two, while host Grand Canyon is six strokes back in third at 573 (-3). Colorado School of Mines' Jim Knous posted a two-under 70 to take a one-stroke lead over Chico State's Kyle Souza and two strokes over the Wildcats' Eric Frazzetta.

The third and final round will open on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., with the top five teams and two individuals advancing to the NCAA Finals, to be held at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky., May 15-19 as part of the 2012 Division II Spring Championships Festival.

Cal State East Bay will tee off on Hole 10 beginning with A.J. Maxedon at 12 p.m., followed by A.J. Warren at 12:10 p.m., Chris Herzog at 12:20 p.m., Jeff Cornez at 12:30 p.m. and Blake Ahlin at 12:40 p.m.
