Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – The Pioneer women's basketball team improved to 2-1 for the season, after an 84-48 victory over the Alaska Nanooks on Saturday.

East Bay tallied a season-high 84 points and shot a season-best 47.4 percent from the field. The Pioneers outrebounded the Nanooks by a 44-33 margin and forced 20 Alaska turnovers.

Tori Breshers came off the bench to lead five Pioneer players in double figures with 16 points. Breshers also led the Pioneers on the boards with eight rebounds. Brianna Terrance also came off the bench to play her best game of the season with 14 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Lucchesi and Micah Walker followed with 11 points. Meaghan Cichoke added 11 points in 32 minutes.

“The starting line-up tonight got us going and a big spark from Tori and Bri off the bench kept us clicking offensively,” Pioneer coach Suzy Barcomb said.  “I love the fact that our bench rebounded so incredibly well today.”

Taylor Altenburg, Teanna Boxley and April Fultz all scored nine points for the Alaska Nanooks (0-3).

Walker and Lucchesi each hit a three-pointer to give the Pioneers an early 6-3 lead. A three-pointer by Fultz tied the game 12-12 with 13:04 remaining.

The Pioneers answered with a 15-4 run, led by Terrance's seven points, to pull ahead 27-16 at the 7:34  mark. East Bay extended its advantage to 38-20 the following four minutes with an 11-4 run.

A pair of Cassie Coble three-pointers in the final minute enabled the Pioneers to take a 19-point halftime lead. For the half, the Pioneers converted 6 of 10 three pointers.

East Bay built a 30-point lead with 11:53 remaining in the game on a three-point play by Nia Bravo. A Lucchesi layup increased the Pioneers advantage to 76-42 with six minutes remaining.

Breshers accounted for the Pioneers final three points in the 36-point victory.

“We executed on the offensive end of the floor,” Barcomb said. “We shared the ball well and had great floor spacing. We worked all week on our floor spacing and recognizing the openings within our offensive systems. Defensively, it took us a bit longer to understand what Alaska was trying to do against us. We made some adjustments and it paid off.”

The Pioneers will host Westmont College on November 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
