HAYWARD, Calif. - After splitting two games at the CCAA/Pac West Conference Challenge last weekend to open the 2012-13 season, the Pioneer women's basketball team will host the Nanooks of Alaska on November 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Pioneers opened the season by defeating Dominican University, 58-36, and losing to Academy of Art University, 59-56. East Bay averaged 56.5 rebounds and held Dominican and Academy of Art to 95 points, an average of 47.5 points per game.
“We rebounded the ball well and played solid defense,” Pioneer coach
Suzy Barcomb said. “With people playing out of position due to injuries and illnesses, we had too many turnovers. Right now, we are out-of sync offensively and until we learn how to play together, we must rely on our defense to keep us in games.”
Lauren Lucchesi is averaging 12.5 points and seven rebounds after two games for the Pioneers.
Micah Walker scored 14 points against Academy of Art.
Meaghan Cichoke is netting 7.5 points and six rebounds a game.
Rachel Finnegan is averaging a team-best 10.5 rebounds a contest.
