LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Pioneer women's cross country team took 10th place at the CCAA Championship Meet on Saturday. The Championship Meet was held at the North Campus Course of the U.C. San Diego Campus in La Jolla.
“Overall, we ran well on a tough course,” Pioneer coach
Ralph Jones said. “The good thing is we have young runners who will be heard from in the future.”
Sophomore
Robin McClinton highlighted the women's performance. McClinton took more than 17 seconds off her previous best, finishing the 6k course in 23:02.2. The performance earned McClinton 23rd place honors and 25th overall out of 99 runners and helped the Pioneers finish ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay in the team standings.
“Robin ran a great race,” Jones said. “She positioned herself well throughout race and was in the top three at the two-mile mark.”
Freshman
Celina Vera was the second Pioneer to finish, taking 59th in a time of 24:24.8. Freshman
Imani Heath posted a time of 24:53.1, good for 62nd place.
Julia Wilson,
Vanessa Mares and
Amanda McNabb finished 72nd, 74th, and 75th respectively. Wilson had a time of 25:38.5, while Mares crossed the finish line in 25:45.4. McNabb posted a time of 25:50.6.
Nastassia Hamor rounded out the Pioneers' effort with a 96th place finish.
Chico State captured its fifth consecutive CCAA Championship, finishing 47 points ahead of second place Cal State Stanislaus.
