Yamamoto's Late Goal Lifts East Bay Past Humboldt State, 1-0

Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – Kara Yamamoto scored on a corner kick in the 84th minute to lift Cal State East Bay past Humboldt State 1-0 on October 13.

The Pioneers, who snapped a three game losing streak, improve to 3-7-1 in CCAA play and 5-7-1 overall. Humboldt State, stands at 1-9 for the season. East Bay outshot Humboldt State by an 11-8 margin. Yamamoto led the Pioneers with four shots while Shianna Falk had two attempts on goal. Pioneer goalkeeper Jamie Botteon turned away five Humboldt State shots to record her second shutout of the season.

“I thought we played well,” Pioneer coach Amy Gerace said. Jamie played well in the net and made a great save in the first half.” “We did a good job controlling the ball in the victory.”

Yamamoto scored the game winning when her corner kick fell in the net. For Yamamoto, it was her third goal of the season. The Pioneer defense was solid in the second half allowing only three Humboldt State shots.

The Pioneers controlled the first 10 minutes of the first half. Falk, the Pioneers leading scorer with 13 points, had a shot saved by Jacks goalkeeper Amber Woolcock in the fourth minute. In the 10th minute, Breahna Berry attempt on goal was turned away by Woolcock.

After both teams exchanged four shots the following 17 minutes, Humboldt State had the first serious scoring opportunity of the game. Maddi Null had a shot turned away by Botteon who got her hand up in the last second to save an apparent goal.

In the 31st minute, Falk had a goal taken away by Woolcock. Claudia Luna entered the game in the 42nd minute and had a shot saved by Woolcock who recorded her fifth save of the first half.

Cal State East Bay will play at Cal Poly Pomona on October 19.
