HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team will kick off the second half of the conference season this weekend when it travels to Southern California to take on Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Pioneers (6-11, 3-8 CCAA) are coming off their third CCAA win of the season and are set to face the Golden Eagles on Friday before taking on the Toros on Saturday, with both games slated for a 5:30 p.m. first tip.

East Bay snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend, topping Cal State Stanislaus, 67-59, to earn its sixth win of the season and third of the CCAA slate. The Pioneers were led by Marlene MacMillan's 25-point, 13-rebound double-double – her third of the season – along with Brianna Terrance's 13 points off the bench. Both players have been on fire of late, with Terrance averaging 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game over the last six contests and MacMillan posting a pair of double-doubles during that same span.

MacMillan, Lauren Lucchesi and Micah Walker are all averaging just over eight points per game for the Pioneers with Sarah Finlay and Brianna Terrance just behind at 7.5 and seven points per contest, respectively. MacMillan's 8.4 boards per game lead the team and rank sixth in the CCAA, while her 47.7 percent shooting is among the top 10 in the league.

As a team, East Bay's defense is still one of the best in the conference. Through the first half of the CCAA campaign, the Pioneers are fourth in the league in scoring defense, giving up just 60 points per game, and second in rebounding defense, allowing opponents only 35 boards per contest. East Bay is also the fifth-best offensive rebounding team in the conference and has out-scored opponents in second-chance situations 64-54 over the last five games. In addition, the Pioneers are getting great production from their bench, getting 137 points from its reserves in comparison to opponents' 33 over the last five games.

Gauging the Golden Eagles
Cal State LA enters the weekend riding a four-game winning streak, holding an 11-5 overall record and a 9-3 mark in CCAA play. The Golden Eagles sit in third place in the conference and are led by Lacy Ramon's 15.1 points per game, which rank third in the CCAA. Ramon also leads Cal State LA's rebounding efforts with 6.7 boards per contest. The Golden Eagles rank second in the league in scoring offense and field goal percentage and lead the CCAA in field goal percentage defense. In their first meeting this year, Cal State LA picked up a 71-59 victory at Pioneer Gym. In the victory, the Golden Eagles had three players score in double figures, led by Tessondra Williams' 19 points.

Scouting Cal State Dominguez Hills
The Toros are 2-17 overall and 1-11 in the CCAA and come into the weekend having lost five straight contests. Cal State Dominguez Hills sits near the bottom of the conference in nearly every statistical category, but is fifth in the league in rebounding defense and is the second-best offensive rebounding squad in the conference. Porcha Davis leads the team in scoring, averaging 8.4 points per game, while Sherrie Hughes paces the Toros' rebounders with 7.1 boards per game. When the Pioneers and Toros last met, Cal State East Bay picked up its first conference victory of the season, claiming a 62-50 win, led by Micah Walker's 16 points.

Looking Ahead
Following the trip to Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay is set to head North next weekend to take on Humboldt State and Sonoma State on Feb. 2 and 4, respectively. When the Pioneers return to Hayward, the campus community will celebrate Homecoming 2012 from Feb. 6-12. The week-long celebration of Pioneer pride will include the annual East Bay Idol contest, Homecoming Parade, the second round of the “Battle of the Bay” with SF State, a celebration of the first Pioneer men's basketball team and much more!
