HAYWARD, Calif. – The Pioneer women's swimming team had a good performance in their final home meet of the season against Fresno Pacific on January 20. Fresno Pacific won the dual meet, 114-87.
“We mixed up a couple of events in the meet against Fresno Pacific,” Pioneer coach
Ben Loorz said. “Under the weather conditions, I felt we did a good job. We had a nice crowd on a rainy day.”
The Pioneers won the first three events of the meet.
Senior
Sara Bonino, competing in her final home meet, took first place in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a season best time of 2:14.85 and was victorious in the 1000 Yard Freestyle by 11 seconds in 10:52.64.
“Sara did a great job in her final home meet,” Loorz said. “Not only did Sara take two events, but she swam two great legs in our relays.”
Jenel Lopez continued her outstanding swimming in the Freestyle events as she captured the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:56.88. Lopez swam an impressive time of 5:19.79 to earn second place honors in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
“Lopez won the 200 Yard Free in convincing style and swam a strong race in the 500 Yard Free,” Loorz said.
Alyssa Tenney had a good meet taking first place in the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:13.11. Tenney won her second event clocking a time of 2:14.92 in the 200 Yard IM.
Rachel Knowles recorded a pair of second place finishes in the 200 Yard IM (2:14.92) and 200 Yard Breastroke (2:31.96).
Bethany Hoopman swam a time of 2:15.40 to take second in the 200 Yard Backstroke.
The Pioneers took first in the 400 Yard Medley Relay as the foursome of Hoopman, Knowles, Tenney and Lopez recorded a time of 4:06.04.
“Our 400 Yard Medley Relay really stepped it up this afternoon,” Loorz said. “This will be the same foursome competing in the conference championships.”
The Pioneers will be competing in the PCSC Championships on February 8-11.
