East Bay Performs Well in Dual Meet Defeat To Nevada

HAYWARD, Calif. –
The Pioneer women's swim team put up a good performance in a 152-94 dual meet defeat to Division I Nevada-Reno on December 3.

“We had some good swims going into the Finis Relays next week,” Pioneer coach Ben Loorz said. “This meet also enabled us to swim people in different events to get ready for the Finis Relays.”

Jenel Lopez continued her winning ways in the sprint freestyle events as she captured the 50 Yard Freestyle in 24.49 and 100 Yard Freestyle in 53.34. Lopez concluded an excellent meet by finishing second in the 100 Yard Breastroke with a time of 1:10.04.

Sara Bonino had a strong meet as she took first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly in 1:01.36 and recorded a time of 5:17.54, good for second place in the 500 Yard Freestyle.

Bethany Hoopman finished a close second in the 50 Yard Backstroke clocked in 29.17. Hoopman recorded a time of 1:03.92 to take second in the 100 Yard Backstroke.

Alyssa Tenney earned a pair of second place finishes in the 50 Yard Butterfly, (28.07) and 100 Yard IM, (1:03.27).

Rachel Knowles took the 200 Yard IM in 2:19.93.

The Pioneers finished the meet strong with a first place finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Lopez, Tenney, Jasmine Stowers and Bonino won the race in a time of 3:45.00.

“I was really proud of our 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team,” Loorz said. “They swam great against Division I competition.”
