REDLANDS, Calif. – Jenel Lopez won three events as the Pioneer women's swim team competed against Cal Baptist and host Redlands University in a double dual meet on November 5.
The Pioneers lost to Cal Baptist 200-87 and were narrowly beaten by Redlands 148-144.
"Overall, these were disappointing losses this weekend,” Pioneer coach
Ben Loorz said. “We didn't convert some close races that could have made the difference for us in the dual meet against Redlands. It matters that we lost this weekend, and we'll be working hard to fix our mistakes as we prepare for UC Santa Cruz in two weeks."
Lopez continued to impress the competition, winning the "Sprinter's Cup" against both Cal Baptist and Redlands. She took the 50-Yard Freestyle in 25.03 and captured the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 54.07. Lopez recorded a time of 1:57.44 to win the 200-Yard Freestyle.
Sara Bonino had an East Bay career-best of 10:49.91 in the 1000-yd. Freestyle, getting second to Cal Baptist and winning the event verses Redlands. Bonino was also second in the 500-Yard Freestyle in 5:25.42.
Alyssa Tenney won the 100-yd. Backstroke with a time of 1:03.00 against both Cal Baptist and Redlands.
Bethany Hoopman finished third in 1:04.20.
Rachel Knowles captured both 100 and 200 breaststroke events in the dual meet against Redlands in season-best times of 1:11.85 and 2:34.07.
East Bay was the overall winner in the final event, the 800-yd. Freestyle Relay. The foursome of Bonino,
Jenni Perez, Tenney and Lopez won the relay with a time of 8:09.50.
“This is a longer and somewhat unusual concluding event for a meet, but our win here reveals an impressive level of conditioning and training compared with the other teams,” Loorz said.
