FRESNO, Calif. - The Pioneer women's swim team opened the 2011-12 season with a fifth place performance at the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference Pentathlon and Relays on October 7-8.
Cal State East Bay, which finished fifth out of seven PCSC institutions, ended the two-day invitational with 175 points. Loyola Marymount scored 763.5 points to capture the invitational.
In the pentathlon, newcomer
Jenel Lopez had a good day finishing second in the 25 yard free, 11.65 and 100 yard free, 54.36. Lopez was third in the 200 yard free, 1:58.82 and seventh in the 50 yard free, 25.28.
Sara Bonino posted a solid time of 5:22.17 to finish seventh in the 500 yard free. Bonino was eighth in the 25 and 200 yard free.

Rachel Knowles placed fifth in the 100 yard breastroke with a time of 1:12.42.
Freshman
Alyssa Tenney placed fourth in the 100 yard back in 1:03.18.
In the relays, the Pioneers placed sixth in the 400 yard Individual Medley Relay as the foursome of Tenney, Knowles,
Stephanie Lau and Hoopman recorded a time of 4:26.61.
The Pioneers also took sixth place in both the 300 yard breastroke and 400 yard free relays.
“We competed in a lot of races the past two days,” Loorz said. “We swam well, but there is still work to do.”
