OAKLAND, Calif. – Jenel Lopez broke a school record in the 100 yard freestyle as the Pioneer women's swim team defeated Mills College in a dual meet on Friday.
Lopez captured the 100 yard freestyle in a school record time of 53.26, breaking the old mark of 53.41 set by
Murphy Wimer last year. Besides winning the 100 yard freestyle, Lopez was victorious in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.43.
Alyssa Tenney clocked a time of 2:12.28 to win the 200 yard backstroke and captured the 200 IM in 2:15.21.
Sara Bonino turned in an impressive performance to win the 1000 freestyle in 11:04.93. Bonino was also victorious in the 200 yard butterfly timed in 2:17.77.
Jenni Perez recorded a time of 5:50.01 to win the 500 yard freestyle.
“I was much happier with our performance than a week ago,” Pioneer coach
Ben Loorz said. “The team significantly improved the details of their races, and the overall pacing of the longer swims was much better. Jenel's school record in the in the 100 yard freestyle is a great accomplishment so early in the season.”
