Former Cal State Fullerton standout Toni Thomas joined the the Cal State East Bay women's basketball program as an assistant coach in 2015-16, bringing five years of coaching expereince. Thomas spent one season as Director of Basketball Operations at her alma mater, and then coached at Monroe High School and the Marlborough School in Los Angeles for a year before taking an AAU position at West Coast Premier Basketball Academy.Â
In addition, Thomas spent five years as a coach and administrator at the Kobe Bryant Academy and three years as a coach for the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. She has also been a private youth coach and trainer since 2011 as co-owner of Advanced Basketball, Inc.Â
Thomas had a distinguished playing career at Cal State Fullerton and currently ranks second in program history with 1,785 career points, 897 rebounds, an .815 throw percentage, and 494 made free throws. She's also fifth all-time in field goals (615) and tenth in scoring average (15.3 ppg).Â
A Southern California native, Thomas earned All-Big West Conference honors all four years with the Titans, and she was named Big West Freshman of the Year in 2005-06. She led the conference in scoring in back-to-back seasons, averaging 17.5 ppg as a sophomore and 17.1 ppg as a junior. Thomas ranked in the top five in the league in rebounding all four years, and she led the Big West in free throw percentage as a senior with a mark of .854, which stands as the second-highest single-season percentage in school history.
Following her collegiate career, Toni spent four years as a professional basketball player overseas. She had stints in Portugal, Germany, Thailand, and Angola, before returning to the United States in 2013 to accept the Director of Basketball Operations position at Cal State Fullerton.Â
