Crystal Harris has been named Assistant Coach for Cal State East Bay women's basketball for the 2015-16 season.
Coach Harris arrives in Hayward after spending the past three seasons on the staff of new California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) member Cal State San Marcos. She was named the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Coach of the Year after being promoted to Interim Head Coach in July 2014.
Harris led the Cougars to the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Tournament title and an automatic berth into the NAIA Division I National Tournament. CSUSM trailed overall No. 1 seed Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) by two points at halftime before falling 64-54 to the eventual national runners-up.
Harris spent three consecutive seasons starting in 2009 as an assistant coach for Cal State Fullerton. At CSUF, Harris assisted in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, scouting, and player development. On the court, she worked directly with the backcourt, assisting in developing the Titans' perimeter players.
She joined CSUF following two seasons at NCAA Division II Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. In 2008 she was named Interim Head Coach of the Bulldogs. During her tenure, Ferris State posted a 30-27 overall record and a 21-19 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.
Harris left for FSU after serving as a volunteer assistant from 2005-07 for the women’s basketball program at Palomar College in the city of San Marcos.
Harris has significant playing experience at the professional level. She played in the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) for the San Diego Siege, as well as internationally in Switzerland for Club Elfic-Fribourg. She also played in Demark for Club HBC. She led both of her international teams in scoring and rebounding, and helped guide the San Diego Siege to a first place league finish.
Harris was a standout guard for the UC Riverside Highlanders from 2000-04. She scored 1,271 career points which ranks ninth all-time in program history heading into the 2015-16 season. She was a three-time All-Big West Selection highlight by Second Team honors as a senior. Harris graduated from UCR with a degree in Sociology.
In her spare time, Crystal enjoys spending time with family and friends, being active, traveling to new places, reading, and being near the water.
