Chris Lessard paced the Pioneers in the opening cross country meet of the season in Ceres. The senior turned in an 8k time of 26:33.2 to place seventh overall at Stanislaus State's Kim Duyst Invitational, which also served as the preview meet for the 2017 CCAA Championships. 

Lessard was CSUEB's top individual finisher and helped lead the team to an impressive third place finish in a field that featured five other CCAA squads, including three teams ranked in the top 10 in the West Region according to the preseason USTFCCCA poll (No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona, No. 8 Cal State San Marcos, and No. 10 San Francisco State).
