Volleyball player Kiki Leuteneker has been named Cal State East Bay's Female Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Doubletree Hilton Pleasanton at the Club, for Sept. 14-20.
The freshman outisde hitter had a breakout week, leading the Pioneers in kills and total points in both of their matches. She was instrumental in a thrilling five-set comeback victory over Stansilaus State last Tuesday, pacing the squad with 17 kills. She hit .265 and added three block assists and 13 digs to notch her first career double-double, as East Bay rallied from down 0-2 to pick up its first conference victory in front of an outstanding crowd at Pioneer Gym.
On Saturday, the Pioneers lost a five-set heartbreaker on the road at Cal State San Marcos, but Leuteneker was once again impressive on the attack. The Hawaii native hit .239 with 15 kills and posted a team-high four total blocks. Through the first 12 matches of her collegiate career, Leuteneker lead the Pioneers in total points, and she's second on the team in kills and blocks.Â
