Junior golfer Joel Keylor has been named Cal State East Bay's Male Athlete of the Week, sponsored by the DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasanton at the Club, for Apr. 20-26. Keylor had the best week of his collegiate career in leading the Pioneer men's golf team all the way to the finals of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championships.
 
The Alberta, Canada native shot his lowest round as a Pioneer with a 68 (-4) in the first round of stroke play. He followed that up with even-par 72 in the second round to finish tied for sixth in the individual standings. Keylor's total of 140 (-4) last Monday helped East Bay turn in its lowest team scores of the season to finish fourth in the stroke play tournament at 574 (-2) and qualify for the medal round.
 
On Tuesday, Keylor shot even par (72) once again as East Bay pulled off an upset of top-seeded Chico State in the semifinal match play round. He finished the week shooting 68-72-72-76 and will look to carry that momentum into next week's NCAA Division II Regional at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif.
