Jacari Whitfield has been named CSUEB Male Athlete of the Week after lifting the Pioneer men's basketball team to a 77-74 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday night. It was East Bay's first against California Collegiate Athletic Association competition. The senior guard led all scorers with a season-high 22 points, and he paced the squad with three steals. Whitfield went 7-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-8 from long distance, and he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. 

After CSUMB went on a 10-0 run to take a six-point lead with eight minutes left in the game, Whitfield buried a pair of three-pointers and scored eight points as part of a 10-1 rally that gave East Bay the lead back for good. The San Francisco native finished two points shy of his career high.
