Senior pitcher Sean Becker started the 2014 season off strong as the Pioneer baseball team swept a rain-shortened two-game series with Oregon Tech this weekend. The right-hander got the ball on opening day and cruised through seven scoreless innings to pick up his first victory of the year. Becker scattered five hits, struck out three, and didn't walk a batter, needing only 63 pitches as Cal State East Bay picked up a 5-0 win. For his efforts, Becker was named California Collegiate Athletic Assocation (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NBCWA) West Region Pitcher of the Week. The San Fernando native has now made 13 starts in his East Bay career, and he's now pitched at least 7.0 innings and allowed zero runs in five of them.
