A longtime athletics administrator and basketball coach, Marcie Haduca Covell was named Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at Cal State East Bay in May 2021.
Haduca Covell’s role includes educating athletic personnel on NCAA rules and regulations, tracking eligibility of current and prospective student-athletes, establishing timelines and expectations for recruiting activities, preparing and submitting medical hardship requests to the NCAA and conference offices, sport oversight among other responsibilities. Additionally, she serves as Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) for the department and is involved with the CCAA Executive Council.Â
In June 2024, Haduca Covell was awarded the DII Excellence Award by the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). The award is given to a DII compliance administrator who has demonstrated leadership and vision for compliance initiatives among his or her compliance peers. Additional work includes being the Chair for the NCAA DII Legislative Relief Committee, NCAA Eligibility Center DII Membership Advisory Group, and NCAA Compliance Assistant 2.0 pilot group.
Prior to East Bay, Haduca Covell spent seven years as Associate AD for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator at Holy Names University (2014-2021), while spending the previous three years as HNU’s Compliance Coordinator (2011-14). She was the first compliance administrator in the history of Holy Names Athletics, as Haduca Covell developed a comprehensive compliance program, oversaw the compliance committee on campus and was co-advisor for the Hawk Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (HSAAC). She was also instrumental in HNU’s successful transition to full NCAA Division II membership in 2016.
Before becoming a senior administrator for the Hawks, Haduca Covell spent seven years working at the Holy Names University Bookstore, first as assistant manager (2004-07) before being promoted to manager in 2007.
A former college basketball player, Haduca Covell was the lead assistant coach for the Holy Names women’s basketball program from 2004-09. During this time, she served as director of sports camps at HNU as well as assistant director of summer basketball camps marketing and promotions.
Haduca Covell is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the National Association for Athletic Compliance (NAAC).
Haduca Covell earned a bachelor’s degree in business management economics with a minor in earth sciences from UC Santa Cruz, where she was a four-year letterwinner on the Banana Slugs women’s basketball team. She completed her master’s degree in sport management at the University of San Francisco.Â
