Jacob Hugger joined the Cal State East Bay Athletics Department in 2023 as the Play-by-Play Announcer and Media Coordinator and has since been promoted to Communications Coordinator. In his current role, Hugger manages the department's athletic communications efforts, including media relations, website content, press releases, and feature stories for the Pioneers' 14 NCAA Division II programs. He oversees the athletics website, maintaining team schedules, rosters, and other program information to ensure timely and accurate content, while also managing the department's live stream broadcasts on FloCollege. Hugger is the current voice of the Pioneers, serving as the department's primary play-by-play broadcaster for a variety of Cal State East Bay home athletic events.
Since his promotion, Hugger has served as one of the primary athletic communications contacts for Cal State East Bay-hosted CCAA postseason championships and NCAA Division II postseason events. He played a key role in coordinating communications efforts for the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball West Regional and the 2026 NCAA Division II Softball West Regional, working with the NCAA, CCAA, participating institutions, and media to ensure successful championship operations.
A native of Alameda, California, Hugger developed a passion for sports broadcasting at an early age. Prior to joining Cal State East Bay, he gained play-by-play broadcasting experience at Sonoma State University, Holy Names University, and Menlo College, in addition to calling games for the CCL Bay Area Admirals.
Hugger earned his Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications from Sonoma State University in 2022.
