Tyler Patterson enters his first season as an asisstant coach for the Cal State East Bay cross country and track & field programs oin 2015-16.
Previously, Patterson spent the past four years as a graduate assistant distance coach for cross country and track & field at Michigan Technological University. He held numerous responsibilities, including recruiting, academic advising, fundraising, coordinating travel, meet management, and composing and overseeing training plans. During his tenure at Michigan Tech, Patterson coached 12 Academic All-Americans, 18 All-Conference performers, and one All-American.
A Michigan native, Patterson earned his M.S. in Environmental and Energy Policy from Michigan Tech and his B.S. in Natural Resource Management from Grand Valley State. As an undergraduate, he was a standout student-athlete for the Grand Valley State cross country and track & field programs.
Tyler was a three-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree and two-time NCAA provisional qualifier in the 800 meters. He was also a two-time Academic All-American and earned Academic All-GLAIC honors all four years. Prior to that, Patterson captured a Michigan State Championship as a high school senior in track & field.
