Chris Oetinger

Chris Oetinger rejoined the Cal State East Bay men's and women's golf programs during the 2021-22 season. Oetinger, a former Pioneer golfer, was voted CSUEB Male Athlete of the Year in 2012. Below are some accomplishments for the Pioneers since Oetinger's most recent arrival to both golf programs at CSUEB.

In June 2023, Oetinger received the very distinctive honor of Golf Pride WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year for women's golf. 

Men’s Golf
-NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional team appearance in 2022 and 2024.
-Two individual golfers qualifying for 2023 NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional.
-Two CCAA Freshman of the Year selections - 2023 (Easton Hether) and 2024 (Adam Brangefalt).
-Two All-CCAA Honorable Mention selections and one All-CCAA selection.
-Three GCAA Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars.

Women’s Golf
-NCAA Division II West Regional appearances in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
-2023 and 2024 NCAA Division II Championships team appearance.
-One individual qualifier for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships (Drishti Karumbaya).
-One WGCA All-West Region selection and All-American Honorable Mention selection in 2022 (Drishti Karumbaya).
-Seven All-CCAA selections in three seasons.
-Multiple team and individual titles at regular season tournaments.
 
Oetinger returned to East Bay after spending nearly four years as Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach and Admissions Liaison for Athletics at Holy Names University. Oetinger led the Hawks to 2021 NCAA Division II Men's West/South Central Regional. In 2019, Oetinger coached the HNU men's golf team to the 2019 PacWest Championship and earned a 2019 NCAA Regional Automatic Qualifier. During the 2018 season, Oetinger coached the men's golf program to a second place finish in the PacWest, a third place finish in the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional championship as the HNU men's golf team became the first program at the university to advance to an NCAA Championship final event. 

Oetinger was named named HNU Coach of the Year for four consecutive years (2017-2020). He also earned 2018 GCAA DII West Region Coach of the Year and 2019 PacWest Coach of the Year. Oetinger coached 12 student-athletes that earned PacWest, West Region or All-American honors during his tenure. 

Prior to Holy Names, Oetinger spent nearly three seasons as Volunteer Coach at Cal State East Bay. During his first coaching term at East Bay, he focused on recruiting and player skill development. Oetinger was a member of the coaching staff of the 2016 CCAA Tournament Champions that finished sixth at the NCAA West Regionals as well as the 2015 CCAA Runner-Ups whom also placed sixth at the NCAA West Regionals that year. 

Prior to becoming at Volunteer Coach at CSUEB, Oetinger was a member of the Cal State East men's golf team. During his two seasons on the course as a Pioneer, Oetinger was named 2012 CSUEB Male Athlete of the Year, three-time CCAA Player of the Week, two-time (2012 & 2013) All-American Scholar Athlete, two-time CCAA Academic Award honoree (2012-2013), two-time Dr. Hal Charnofsky Award winner (2012 & 2013), an All-CCAA and All-West Region selection in 2013 and a 2013 West/Central All-Preview Team selection. 

After two years at Butte Community College, Oetinger graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Cal State East Bay in June of 2013.Â
