Cal State East Bay is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pioneer Athletics in 2011. Since 1961, the university has fielded intercollegiate athletics teams beginning with men's basketball in December, 1961. During the past 50 years, Pioneer teams have captured a total of seven national championships and more than 80 conference titles, producing more than 420 All-Americans and Academic All-Americans, and garnering numerous other awards and honors, both on and off the field.

In honor of the many accomplishments of Pioneer student-athletes, coaches and staff since the implementation of the program, the Athletics Department is holding a celebration weekend Sept. 23-26, 2011 and inviting all Pioneer alumni to attend. In addition, fans and alumni alike can find out more about the many impressive victories, championship teams and star student-athletes in Pioneer history by checking back here for a new tale of Cal State East Bay Athletics lore every weekday, beginning July 20, 2011.
