HAYWARD, Calif. — No. 16 Cal State East Bay opened the CCAA Tournament with a 7-6 walk-off win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
The game turned late.
East Bay built a 5-2 lead through four innings, taking advantage of errors and timely hitting. Cynthia Carrillo delivered a two-run double during the stretch, while Ava Benavides and Macie Mead each drove in runs to give the Pioneers control.
Humboldt responded in the sixth.
The Lumberjacks capitalized on defensive miscues and a string of hits to score four runs and take a 6-5 lead.
East Bay answered immediately.
Jasmyn Morales tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh, and later in the inning, the winning run came across on a fielder's choice to secure the walk-off victory.
Marissa Quintero made the start in the circle, working 5.2 innings before Jaidyn Gamble closed out the final 1.1 innings without allowing a hit to earn the win.
Carrillo finished with three RBIs to lead the offense, while Morales added two hits and the game-tying home run. East Bay totaled eight hits in the victory.
No. 16 Cal State East Bay continues CCAA Tournament play Friday at 10:00 a.m. against Cal State San Marcos.
