East Bay Earns Split in Pitchers’ Duel Doubleheader

TURLOCK, Calif. — No. 7 Cal State East Bay split Thursday's doubleheader against Stan State, holding on for a 4-3 win in the opener before falling 1-0 in game two.

In the first game, the Pioneers jumped out early and withstood a late push from the Warriors to secure the victory.

East Bay capitalized on defensive miscues to score twice in the opening inning. The Pioneers added two more in the second, highlighted by an RBI double from Jeslyn Cuellar and a run-scoring single from Jasmyn Morales to build a 4-0 lead.

Stan State responded in the third with a pair of runs and added another in the fifth to trim the deficit to 4-3, putting pressure on East Bay late.

Quintero remained composed in the circle, working through traffic in the final innings and retiring the side in the seventh to preserve the win.

Cuellar finished with two runs scored and an RBI, while Morales and Jenna Porto each drove in a run. Isabel Mercado paced the offense with two hits as East Bay totaled seven.

Quintero went the distance, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three.

The second game developed into a tightly contested pitcher's duel, with both teams limited offensively throughout.

Stan State broke through in the second inning, using a double to drive in the only run of the game.

East Bay threatened in the middle innings, putting runners on base but unable to deliver the tying hit. The Pioneers were held to three hits, with Cuellar, Morales, and Cynthia Carrillo each recording one.

Jaidyn Gamble took the loss after allowing one run over 4.1 innings, while Quintero added 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Cal State East Bay continues the series Friday with a doubleheader against Stan State.
