TRACY, Calif. – For the second time this season, No. 2 Cal State East Bay softball defeated Central Washington. The Pioneers played their final game of the NorCal Crossover Softball Tournament with a 6-4 win over the Wildcats and take an 18-2 overall record into CCAA action.
After
Reagan Hallett led off the second inning with a walk, then reached second on a single from
Isabel Mercado and got to third on a well-placed bunt by
Jenna Porto,
Marissa Farias hit a sacrifice fly to left field for an RBI as Hallett came to the plate for a 1-0 lead.
Jeslyn Cuellar drew a one-out walk in the top of the third, stole second base and got to third on a groundout.
Jasmyn Morales launched a double to center field for an RBI as Cuellar scored to give East Bay a 2-0 lead.
CWU put together three runs to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third, but the Pioneers had three of their own as an answer in the top of the fourth. With Porto doubling, Farias hit an RBI single to drive her in for the tying run. East Bay added two more runs in the inning – a sacrifice fly RBI from Cuellar and a bases loaded walk drawn by Morales for a 5-3 lead.
A leadoff triple in the bottom of the fourth by Adriana Rodriguez, followed by an error that allowed her to score brought the Wildcats within a run.
East Bay got one run back, much to the credit to bunt execution in the top of the fifth. With Porto and
Brynn Gentry on base, Farias placed a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners, then
Jennavee Campos bunted, bringing home Gentry for a 6-4 lead.
In the final two innings,
Marissa Quintero shut the door on CWU, dominating in the circle as a reliever. She is now 13-0 on the season, as on Sunday, she tossed 4.1 innings allowing no earned runs with two strikeouts for a 0.28 earned run average.
Morales and Mercado had two hits each. Morales also had two RBIs along with Farias.
The Pioneers wrapped up their three games Sunday in the tournament, as Quintero and
Rylee Gomez were named to the All-Tournament Team.
This coming Friday, 2026 CCAA action begins for No. 2 Cal State East Bay with a conference doubleheader against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Game one is set for 12 p.m., followed by game two at 2 p.m. from Pioneer Softball Field in Hayward.
