Pioneers Sweep Saturday Set of Games to Wrap Up Week

TURLOCK, Calif. — No. 5 Cal State East Bay extended its winning streak to 13 games Saturday at the Stan State Invitational, sweeping Menlo College and Saint Martin's at Warrior Softball Field. The Pioneers opened the day with a 10-2 run-rule win over Menlo in five innings before edging Saint Martin's 2-1 behind another strong pitching performance. East Bay (14-1) continued to show resilience, timely hitting and shutdown pitching while finishing the weekend unbeaten.

No. 5 Cal State East Bay 10, Menlo College 2 (5 innings)
Menlo struck first with two runs in the top of the first, but East Bay quickly took over in the second. With the bases loaded, Jenna Porto reached on an error that allowed Jennavee Campos and Sarissa Block to score, tying the game at 2-2.

The Pioneers exploded in the third inning. Pinch hitter Isabel Mercado singled to drive in the go‑ahead run. Campos followed with a single scoring Cynthia Carrillo, and Mercado crossed the plate when Block reached on an error. Jeslyn Cuellar then continued her impressive tournament performance with a two‑run triple to right, later scoring on a wild pitch for an 8-2 lead.

East Bay added another run in the fourth when Block legged out an infield RBI single, and in the fifth Carrillo singled to left to bring home Rylee Gomez, clinching the run‑rule victory at 10-2.

Jaidyn Gamble improved to 4-1 after throwing 4.1 innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out three. She now owns a 1.73 ERA this season.

No. 5 Cal State East Bay 2, Saint Martin's 1
The second game remained scoreless through three innings before a throwing error allowed Saint Martin's to take a 1-0 lead in the fourth. East Bay responded immediately in the bottom half when Reagan Hallett doubled into the gap, bringing home Carrillo to tie the game.

The Pioneers found the go‑ahead run in the sixth. Mercado reached on an error and Mia Garcia entered as a pinch runner, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt from Porto. With two outs, Cuellar delivered again, lining a single that scored Garcia for a 2-1 lead.

In the seventh, Marissa Quintero struck out the first two batters before Saint Martin's put the tying and go‑ahead runs on base. Quintero induced a fielder's choice grounder to third to end the game, securing her ninth win of the season. She allowed no earned runs in the complete game effort and struck out seven, lowering her ERA to 0.27.

Cuellar went 2-for-7 across the two games with three RBIs while extending her hitting streak to 10 games. She finished the tournament 9-for-17 with at least one RBI in every game and now leads the CCAA with 26 total hits. Campos recorded a 3-for-5 day with a triple.

Cal State East Bay returns home Wednesday, February 18, for the 2026 home opener against Simon Fraser. The doubleheader begins at noon at Pioneer Softball Field, with game two scheduled for 2 p.m.
