IRVINE, Calif. — No. 17 Cal State East Bay closed the final day of the 2026 Concordia Kickoff Classic in emphatic fashion Sunday morning, rolling to an 8-0, five-inning win over Chaminade at Great Park. Behind dominant pitching from Marissa Quintero and a decisive six-run fourth inning, the Pioneers earned a run-rule victory to cap the opening weekend and improve to 4-1 overall.
After two and one-half scoreless innings, East Bay broke through in the bottom of the third. Jasmyn Morales jump-started the offense with an RBI double, and Cynthia Carrillo followed with another run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage.
The game tilted fully in East Bay's favor in the bottom of the fourth. Marissa Farias opened the inning with a single before Mia Garcia entered as a pinch runner and eventually advanced to third base. Jeslyn Cuellar lifted a sacrifice fly to bring Garcia home. Two batters later, a fielding error allowed Jennavee Campos to score, and Carrillo kept the line moving with an infield single that plated Jenna Porto.
With the bases loaded, Reagan Hallett delivered the biggest swing of the day, driving a double into the gap to clear the bases. The three-run hit extended the lead to 8-0 and put the Pioneers in position for a run-rule finish.
Chaminade threatened briefly in the top of the fifth, placing two runners on base with no outs. Quintero responded by retiring the next three batters in order, preserving the shutout and sealing the five-inning victory.
Quintero was outstanding in the circle, allowing just two hits while striking out six in a complete-game effort. She improved to 3-0 on the season and now has 14 strikeouts in 15.1 innings with a 0.46 earned run average. Her performance helped earn her a spot on the Concordia Kickoff Classic All-Tournament Team for the second straight year.
Hallett drove in three runs on her lone hit, marking her first RBIs and first hit as a Pioneer. Porto, Morales, Carrillo and Hallett each collected two hits, with Porto and Morales now tied for the team lead with six hits apiece through the first weekend.
Cal State East Bay returns to action Friday to open the D2 West Coast Challenge in Lake Elsinore, California. The Pioneers will face No. 3 Western Washington at 2 p.m. in a rematch of last season's NCAA Division II West Region Hayward Pod final, followed by a 5 p.m. matchup with Azusa Pacific at Rosetta Canyon Sports Park.
