ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team battled Stanislaus State to a 1-1 draw Sunday at the Oakland Roots Practice Facility. The result moved the Pioneers to 2-7-3 overall and 2-2-2 in CCAA play.
East Bay generated opportunities throughout the opening half, recording eight shots compared with four for Stanislaus State. The Warriors broke through first, however, as Adrian Yepez scored off an assist from Jose Tizoc in the 24th minute to give Stanislaus State a 1-0 advantage.
The Pioneers continued to search for an equalizer and found it shortly after halftime. Guilherme Azevedo put a shot on goal in the 52nd minute that was saved before East Bay earned a corner kick. Moments later, Jefferson Parada found the back of the net off an assist from Azevedo at 51:09 to level the match at 1-1.
Both sides continued to create chances as the second half progressed. East Bay produced nine shots after halftime, while Stanislaus State recorded 13, but neither side was able to find the go-ahead goal.
The Pioneers gained a player advantage in the 77th minute when Stanislaus State's Michael Daley was shown a red card. East Bay continued to push forward over the closing minutes, generating two corner kicks and several attempts, but the match remained level through the final whistle.
East Bay finished with 17 shots, matching Stanislaus State's total, while both teams placed two attempts on goal. Parada led the Pioneers with three shots, one on goal and the team's lone goal. Alejandro Zarate also recorded three shots, while Azevedo finished with two shots, one on goal and an assist.
Adan Corona played all 90 minutes in goal for East Bay and made one save while allowing one goal. The Pioneers held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks and were called for 15 fouls compared with 19 for Stanislaus State.
After falling behind in the opening half, East Bay responded with Parada's second-half equalizer and held Stanislaus State scoreless over the final 66 minutes to earn a point in CCAA play.
