SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's cross country team turned in a fourth-place finish Saturday morning in the 8K at the Cougar Challenge, finishing with 113 points at Cal State San Marcos. The Pioneers tied Mesa Community College with 113 points in the team standings.
Phillip Logan led the way for East Bay, crossing the finish line in 15th place with a time of 25:15.4. Logan was the first of five Pioneers to finish inside the top 45.
Yosef Amaha followed in 22nd place, completing the 8K course in 25:27.7. Elijah Melchor was East Bay's third finisher, taking 31st overall with a time of 25:40.2.
Nestor Alvarado crossed the line in 35th place at 25:45.9, while Dylan Baptista rounded out the Pioneers' scoring five in 43rd with a time of 26:12.4.
Brandon Simpson followed in 57th place with a time of 26:39.3, while John Funderburg IV completed the East Bay lineup in 65th at 27:09.5.
The Pioneers' five scoring runners combined for a team time of 2:08:22 and an average of 25:41. East Bay's scoring five were separated by just 57 seconds from Logan to Baptista, giving the Pioneers a tightly packed group at the front of their lineup.
East Bay finished fourth in the team standings with 113 points as the Pioneers continued their 2026 season at the Cougar Challenge.
