Pioneers Battle to Scoreless Draw with Cal State San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team battled Cal State San Bernardino to a 0–0 draw on Friday afternoon, earning a hard-fought point on the road in a match defined by the defense.  With the result, the Pioneers move to 5-4-4 overall and 3-1-3 in CCAA play.

Goalkeeper Adan Corona anchored the Pioneers' back line, recording three saves en route to his first shutout of the season. His presence between the posts was crucial late in the second half, as he denied Cal State San Bernardino's Anthony Morales on a chance in the 86th minute to preserve the clean sheet.

The Pioneers' defensive unit, led by Franco De Luna, Eugenio Perez-Vera Merino, and James Garlick, held firm under sustained pressure from the Coyotes, who attempted 15 shots but found few clear looks at goal. East Bay's disciplined shape limited CSUSB to just three shots on target despite their attacking presence.

Offensively, East Bay outshot the Coyotes 15-12 and generated several strong opportunities of their own, especially after halftime. Jonas Banouas led the charge with three shots, two of them on goal, while Alejandro Verdugo sparked the attack off the bench, adding two shots.

Cal State East Bay will look to carry that defensive momentum into its next CCAA matchup on Sunday when the Pioneers travel to face Cal Poly Pomona in another pivotal late-season contest.
