BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Cal State East Bay softball entered the second day of the NCAA Division II West Regional on Friday to play in an elimination game. The Cougars defeated the Pioneers 5-0 to end the 2024 season for CSUEB.
 
The Cougars scored a run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Aly Montesino.
 
The lead for APU doubled to 2-0 in the top of the third on a solo home run by Mia Alvarez, then tripled in the top of the sixth on a solo shot by Montesino.
 
Jaelah Burrell delivered a single to drive in two more runs for the Cougars in the top of the sixth for a 5-0 lead.
 
Although the Pioneers had runners in scoring position twice in the game, no runs were manufactured.
 

NOTABLE STATS

• Gabriela Rivera and Jeslyn Cuellar had the only hits for Cal State East Bay on Friday.
• Entering as a relief pitcher, Marissa Quintero had two strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched.
• The Pioneers conclude the 2024 season with a 29-24 overall record in the eighth played season under the direction of Claire Sua-Amundson.
