SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball lost two games on Friday in a CCAA doubleheader by one run each to Cal State San Marcos. The Pioneers were shut out 1-0 to CSUSM in the opener then lost 6-5 in the second game.
Game One – CSUSM 1, Cal State East Bay 0
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning for the Cougars. The Pioneers had runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings but they could not plate the runners.
Game Two – CSUSM 6, Cal State East Bay 5
After a single by
Ysabella Cortez with two runners on base, an error by the Cougars allowed
Cynthia Carrillo to score the first run of the game for a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars would score five runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 5-1 lead.
Annelise Garcia led off the top of the third with a solo home run. Later in the inning,
Kyana Elder reached base on a bases loaded error, as
Adriana Martinez scored the third run of the game for CSUEB.
Carrillo hit an RBI double that scored
Gabriela Rivera in the top of the fourth to bring the Pioneers within a run. After the double, Cuellar drew a walk to load the bases, then
Sarissa Block was hit by a pitch as Martinez scored the tying run to even the game at 5-5.
However, with a runner on base, an error allowed the Cougars to score a walk off run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 6-5 win to sweep the doubleheader.
- Carrillo led the Pioneers' offense going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
- Garcia's home run was her ninth of the season.
