MERCED, Calif. – On Friday, Cal State East Bay women's water polo played UC Merced for the third time in the 2024 season. After the Bobcats trailed by just one goal in the second quarter, Cal State East Bay took control finishing the match on a 13-1 run to go on to a 17-4 victory, sweeping the season series from the Bobcats.
Audrey Dexter scored the first goal of the match, a power play goal, at the 4:49 mark of the first quarter to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats kept pace, but the Pioneers finished the opening quarter with a 4-2 lead, with two of the goals for CSUEB from Dexter.
UC Merced scored the first goal of the second quarter to climb within one, but Dexter scored two more power play goals to follow to finish the first half, as the Pioneers led 6-3 at halftime.
Cal State East Bay dominated the second half, shutting out the Bobcats in quarter three, 5-0, and having a 6-1 advantage in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 17-4 victory.

The final match of the 2024 regular season takes place Saturday from Clovis East High School as the Pioneers take on Fresno Pacific in a WWPA showdown. Opening sprint is set for 1 p.m. On March 29, the Pioneers defeated the Sunbirds, 18-12 in Hayward.
