HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's water polo played its final home match of the 2024 season on Saturday at Pioneer Pool. On Senior Day, the Pioneers defeated Cal State Monterey Bay in WWPA action for their fifth consecutive victory and remained unbeaten in conference play.
Before the match, six Pioneers were recognized as part of the Senior Day celebration -
Lola Gill,
Hope Grantham,
Jordan Jarandson,
Daniela Passoni,
Luna Sarmiento and
Caroline Vollmer.
Grantham got the scoring started at the 6:09 mark of then first quarter, then the Otters tied the match at the 4:22 mark.
After an even 1-1 score, the Pioneers went on a run of eight unanswered goals for the rest of the first half to lead 9-1 at halftime. Sarmiento and
Rachel Heredia had three goals each during the run.
The Otters did outscore CSUEB in the third quarter, 5-2, but the fourth quarter was even at 3-3 with two goals from
Bailey Barlow and one from Heredia, as the Pioneers prevailed with a 14-9 win on Saturday.
- Heredia led the Pioneers in scoring with four goals.
- Sarmiento had three goals and one assist.
- Grantham had two goals and two assists and drew three exclusions.
- Defensively, Sarmiento had three steals.
- Playing her final match in net at Pioneer Pool, Passoni allowed only two goals and made 10 saves.

The home schedule for the Pioneers in 2024 has concluded. On Thursday, April 4, the Pioneers will play two non-conference matches in Southern California. At 10:30 a.m. CSUEB takes on La Verne at Las Flores Park. Later on Thursday, the Pioneers play a match at Whittier College with a 3 p.m. opening sprint.
