SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State East Bay traveled to Seaside to take on Cal State Monterey Bay in what was the 2024 WWPA opener for the Pioneers. The Pioneers defeated the Otters 12-8.
Elise Whitworth scored the first goal of the day for the Pioneers with 7:38 left in the first quarter. Although CSUMB tied the match, The Pioneers got goals from
Bailey Barlow and
Luna Sarmiento to take a 3-1 lead with 2:15 left in the quarter. Each team talled one more goal each in the first quarter as the Pioneers led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.
CSUEB had a pair of tallies from
Audrey Dexter and one from
Hope Grantham helping thr Pioneers outscore the Otters, 3-1 in the second quarter and take a 7-3 lead into halftime.
Two goals from Sarmiento, one from
Lola Gill and one from Grantham added up for the Pioneers in the third, who led the Otters 11-5 at the end of three quarters.
Despite CSUMB outscoring the Pioneers, 3-1 in the fourth quarter, Cal State East Bay went on to a 12-8 victory in conference play on Saturday.

- Whitworth, Dexter and Grantham had two goals each.
