ARCATA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay men's basketball hit the road for the second game of a four game CCAA road stretch at Cal Poly Humboldt. The Pioneers held a double digit lead at halftime en route to a 83-68 victory over the Lumberjacks, snapping a two-game skid.
In the first half, the Lumberjacks would start the game on an 8-4 spurt capped by a pair of Sage Wayans free throws. The Pioneers would then go on a 12-7 spurt, capped by a
Grady Lewis layup with 12:57 left, to take the lead for good at 16-15. The Pioneers expanded their lead to double digits, at 39-29, after a
Payden White free throw in the closing seconds of the half for a 39-29 at halftime.
In the second half, the Pioneers would expand their lead to 12 on two occasions with the second occasion at 43-31 on a pair of
Tyree Campbell free throws with 18:46 left. The Lumberjacks went on a 16-7 run, capped by a Wayans free throw with 12:30 left, trimming the Pioneers' lead to 50-47. The Lumberjacks would get no closer, however, as the Pioneers rebuilt the lead back to double digits and cruised to an 83-68 victory.
- Daeshawn Eaton and Lewis each scored 18 points to lead the Pioneers. Each made a pair of free throws, but Lewis went 8-for-11 from the floor and Eaton went 7-for-8 from the floor.
- Also reaching double figures in scoring was Dimitrios Klonaras with 17 points and Campbell and white with 10 each.
- Lewis led the Pioneers in rebounds with six.
- Wayans scored a game-high 19 points for the Lumberjacks.
- The Pioneers shot 58.3 percent from the field, while the Lumberjacks shot 44.4 percent in field goals.
- Cal State East Bay had a 26-18 rebounding edge on Saturday.
