HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball played its first home doubleheader of 2024 against Academy of Art University at Pioneer Softball Field. The Pioneers won game one, the home opener, 9-2 and the second game was halted due to rain with the Pioneers ahead 5-2 through six innings.

The Pioneers' offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning all off home runs.
Adriana Martinez and
Alexa Zumstein launched two-run shots, and later in the third,
Ashlee Toy hit a three-run home run as CSUEB led 7-0
The Urban Knights scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, trimming the Pioneers' lead to 7-2. The Pioneers would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning – one on a
Cynthia Carrillo RBI double that scored
Kyana Elder and another on an RBI single by Zumstein to drive in Carrillo for a 9-2 lead.
- The win went to Ashlee Toy, improving to 2-0 on the season
- Zumstein led the Pioneers' offense going 2-4 with three RBIs and one run scored.
- Elder and Carrillo also had a pair of hits.
- Reaching base four times was Sarissa Block, who had one single and drew three walks.

The next doubleheader for the Pioneers will start CCAA play. The Pioneers will start a four game series at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. First pitch of game one is set for noon on Friday from Seawolf Softball Field.
