LOS ANGELES - On Saturday, Cal State East Bay men's basketball played its final road game of the 2023-24 regular season. Cal State Los Angeles defeated the Pioneers 82-66 in a CCAA contest.
The Golden Eagles started the game on a 17-10 run capped by a Corey Cofield dunk with 14:04 left in the half. The Pioneers would then go on an 8-0 run, as by a
Daeshawn Eaton free throw with 12:28 left gave the Pioneers an 18-17 lead. Cal State LA answered 22-4 run, capped by a Kris Krause layup with 4:03 left, to lead 39-22. The Golden Eagles would gain their largest lead of the half at 19 on two occasions; the second occasion at 48-29 on a Cofield dunk with 43 seconds left.
Chris James scored a layup with 11 seconds left in the half, but the Golden Eagles led 48-31 at halftime.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles would hold the Pioneers at arms' length. CSULA led by as much as 20 points, at 59-39, on a A'Jahni Levias layup with 13:35 left. The Pioneers went on a 14-5 run, capped by a
Ramsey Huff layup with 9:39 left, to trim the Golden Eagles' lead to 64-53, but the Pioneers could not get any closer, as Cal State LA went on to an 82-66 win.
- Tyree Campbell scored a team-high 14 points for the Pioneers, going 5-for-10 from the floor and making a pair of free throws.
- Eaton, Ramsey Huff and Grady Lewis each scored 10 points apiece in the loss.
- Leading the Pioneers in rebounds with nine was Dimitrios Klonaras.
- Cofield and Eche Okeke each had a game high 19 points for CSULA.
- The Pioneers shot 43.4 percent from the floor while CSULA shot 56.6 percent in field goals.
- The Pioneers outrebounded the Golden Eagles 30-27.
