HAYWARD, Calif. - On Saturday, Cal State East Bay water polo continued WWPA play as they hosted Cal State Monterey Bay at Pioneer Pool. The Pioneers won 14-9 over the Otters.
After trading goals to open the match, the Pioneers took the lead for good on a
Rachel Heredia strike with 6:12 left in the quarter.
Luna Sarmiento and
Hannah Peercy would score before the end of the first quarter as the Pioneers led 4-2.
In the second quarter, the Pioneers scored two out of the first three goals of the quarter – one by
Lola Gill with 3:14 left and one by Sarmiento with 2:51 left. The Otters responded with three of the next four goals to trim the Pioneers' lead to 7-6 at halftime.
The Pioneers led 11-9 at the end of the third quarter. Two goals in the quarters were netted by
Jordan Jarandson.
Heredia would scored two goals in the fourth quarter and
Raisa Guisado would score one as the Pioneers won their fourth game in their last five and fist WWPA match of the season.
CSU Monterey Bay outshot the Pioneers, 32-23 and won all four opening sprints.
Heredia finished with five goals on Saturday.

The Pioneers will travel to Southern California for their next three games. Two of the contests take place this coming Thursday, including a match at Cal State Fullerton starting at noon, followed by a match at Chapman at 6 p.m.
