HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team won its second consecutive game on Thursday by defeating Cal State LA, 82-59 inside Pioneer Gymnasium in a CCAA matchup.
Both teams battled close throughout the first half with no lead greater than five points, which is the margin that the Pioneers took into halftime, 33-28.
In a span of less than three minutes into the second half, the Pioneers quickly built their lead to double digits. Although the Golden Eagles were within 10 points shortly thereafter, the lead of double digits was reestablished by the Pioneers and was as much as 26 points in the final minute after a pair of free throws were made by
Dexter Stratton. Cal State East Bay ultimately finished with an 82-59 victory on Thursday.
- Payden White was the leading scorer for the Pioneers, finishing with 19 points, going 5-for-12 from the floor, with three field goals from beyond the arc.
- Scoring 18 points each were Grady Lewis and Dimitrios Klonaras.
- Lewis finished with a double double after 14 rebounds. It was his third double double of the season, and first since January 1.
- Defensively, Lewis had four blocks on Thursday.
- With the win, combined with other action in the CCAA on Thursday, the Pioneers are 1/2 game behind Cal State Monterey Bay for sixth place in the conference standings, which represents the final spot in the CCAA Tournament.
- Payton Moore and Alexander Sokol scored 12 points each for Cal State LA.
Cal State East Bay: 10-15, 8-11 CCAA
Sonoma State: 10-14, 9-9 CCAA
