POMONA, Calif. - On Friday, the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team looked to climb the CCAA standings with postseason hopes in sight. However, the Pioneers lost 4-1 to No. 11 Cal Poly Pomona at Kellogg Stadium. Scoring his sixth goal of the season for Cal State East Bay was
Aaron Farnan.
- The Broncos struck early with a goal from Mike Moser less than five minutes into the match for a 1-0 lead.
- The CPP lead doubled in the 11th minute when Mads Frederiksen netted his fifth goal of the season. Woody Angell assisted on Frederiksen's goal.
- Farnan's goal was scored in the 54th minute, which was assisted by Mateo DiDomenico.
- In the 61st minute, the Broncos' lead was back to two goals when Paul Roger Henschke scored his eighth goal of the season. Angell and Jakob Singh assisted on the goal.
- Cal Poly Pomona added one more goal in the 77th minute, which was an unassisted goal from Christian Miramontes.
- Farnan's goal was his team-high sixth of the season and 12th of his career. He has scored a goal in the last two matches and at least a point in the last three.
- Farnan also had a team-high four shots in the match.
- CPP outshot the Pioneers, 22-7 and had a 5-2 advantage in the corner kick category.
- With the loss for the Pioneers, their chances of qualifying for the 2023 CCAA Tournament have been drastically reduced, as they sit in ninth place. Their eight points is five points out of the final tournament spot with only six available points. The Pioneers will need to win their two remaining matches and have results in other CCAA matches go in their favor this coming Sunday and Thursday.
