The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team looks to rebound after a 2-1 loss last Saturday against Northwest Nazarene. The Pioneers will play a pair of matches this week, including their first contest on the road this season at Dominican (Calif.)
On Saturday, the Pioneers host the first of four straight home matches with a matchup against Holy Names.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Zavier Hajdukovich – Goalkeeper
Hajdukovich made seven saves last Thursday in the Pioneers' season opener and earned a 90 minute shutout. His performance in net allowed Cal State East Bay to shut out an opponent for the first time since early in the 2019 season.
Michael Rossi – Forward
Rossi made a clean pass on the left wing in CSUEB's season opening victory to set up the game winning goal, finding
Jacob Castro in front of the net. Through two matches, Rossi has six shots with three on frame.
Aaron Farnan – Midfielder
Scoring his first goal of the season on Saturday, with his third of his career, Farnan has seven shots on the season (four on net) in 173 minutes on the field.
About Dominican
The Penguins are coming off a 3-2 season-opening win at Stanislaus State, with the game winner coming in the 85
th minute on a successful penalty kick from Brian Sanchez. Thursday's matchup is Dominican's home opener. Last season, the Pioneers and Penguins played to a 1-1 tie.
About Holy Names
HNU has played to two draws thus far in 2022. The opener was a 2-2 tie with Stanislaus State and the second matchup was a scoreless tie with Humboldt State. Erik Arias and Gabriel Ventura each have an assist and a goal this season. Prior to meeting the Pioneers on Saturday, the Hawks play Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday.
