Tony Nicolosi Accepts Position to Coach at Austin Peay

7/11/2022 4:00:00 PM

HAYWARD, Calif. - Long time Cal State East Bay head men's and women's cross country/track & field head coach Tony Nicolosi has accepted a position as cross country and distance coach at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.

"Tony has made an incredible impact on the [cross country and track] programs at East Bay during his tenure," stated CSUEB Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Allison Kern. "He has also been a fantastic member of our department and I can't overstate the value he brings in a professional setting. He will be missed, but we wish him nothing but the best in this exciting new chapter of his career."

Nicolosi took over head coaching duties for the Pioneers in 2015. During the six seasons in which cross country was sponsored under his leadership, the Pioneers saw tremendous growth. The women's cross country program qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships for the first time during the 2019 season and in 2018, the men's cross country program placed fourth in the CCAA Championships, which was the highest since joining the conference and finished 11th at the NCAA West Regionals.

In track and field, several individual school records reached the top-10 in men's and women's program history. Just this past 2022 track season, one runner (Chase Worthen) was the CCAA Champion in the women's 1500 meters and three records cracked the top-10 in program history for women's track and eight for men's track.

Just this past season in cross country under Nicolosi's direction, the women's program finished eighth in the NCAA West Regional 6k and the men placed 15th in the 10k competition.

A national search will commence immediately for a head coach to lead Cal State East Bay cross country and track.
