SEASIDE, Calif. – In an elimination game of the CCAA Tournament, the Cal State East Bay softball team came up short against Cal State Monterey Bay, falling 6-2 on Friday.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning on a Madeline Ramirez RBI single to right field that scored Sarah Fukushima.
CSUMB would tie the game in the bottom of the second inning on an Abby Alcayaga RBI single through the left side that scored Oli Perez.
Cal State East Bay regained the lead with a run in the top of the third inning on a Gabriela Rivera sacrifice fly RBI to left field to drive in Sarah Duran.
The Otters scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 4-2 lead, and added a run each in the fourth and sixth innings for a 6-2 lead which eventually became the final score.
Ramirez led the Pioneers' offense going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In her final game in the circle for CSUEB, Abby Greer, who holds the program record for career strikeouts, had one on Friday to cap off her outstanding career.
"I'm really proud of this team and how we represented East Bay in the tournament," said Cal State East Bay head coach Claire Sua-Amundson. "Things didn't go our way today but I am excited about the direction this program is headed and the future in front of us."
The Pioneers conclude their 2022 season going 24-28 overall, which was Sua-Amundson's sixth season (seventh year) guiding the program.
