CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The No. RV Cal State East Bay water polo team fell short in two contests against ranked opponents on Day 1 of the 2022 Harvard Invitational at Plodgett Pool.
The Pioneers lost a close game to No. 23-ranked Marist to begin the day, 12-10, and dropped the final contest of the day to No. 15 Wagner, 20-6.
CSUEB (6-7) is receiving votes in the CWPA Top 25 for the sixth-consecutive week to begin the season.
Game 1: Marist 12, CSUEB 10
Adrien Van Dyke had three goals with an assist against Marist, and
Leti Mosqueda finished with two goals and two assists in a narrow defeat.
Auriel Bill had a team-high four assists with one goal, while
Payton Bosque and
Bailey Barlow both finished with one goal and one assist.
Daniela Passoni had seven saves and three steals in the cage, and
Brighton Kinney tallied six saves.
Game 2: Wagner 20, CSUEB 6
Bosque scored two goals, while
Hannah Peercy,
Briana Ruiz,
Caroline Vollmer and Bill scored one goal apiece. Kinney recorded six saves with an assist in the net.
CSUEB resumes this weekend's action on Sunday morning against No. 22-ranked Long Island University beginning at 6:15 a.m. PT, followed by a matchup against host Harvard at 11:15 a.m. PT.
